Restore Your Skin
Chemical peels can improve your skin by causing significant exfoliation, and some peels stimulate collagen production. We offer top-of-the-line chemical peels in different strengths. A range of peels is available, from light peels (such as glycolic and lactic acid peels) to aggressive peels that produce significant results.
Choosing To Get a Peel
If you want to target fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin pigmentation, acne, and skin aging caused by the sun, a chemical peel may be right for you.
- Glycolic Acid Peel
- Lactic Acid Peel
- Salicylic Acid Peel
These different types of chemical peels target and improve different skin conditions. They can be used in conjunction with other non-surgical skincare treatments, such as those involving light or laser therapy. Dr. Kara will base his chemical peel recommendations on your unique skin.
Chemical peels clinical study
Researchers at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine found that glycolic acid peel and salicylic acid peel are both effective in treating mild to moderately severe facial acne. The study included a group of patients with moderate to severe facial acne, of an average age of 24 years. Patients were treated with chemical peels for six weeks. They received glycolic acid to one side of the face and salicylic acid to the other. Study results showed good improvement in acne lesions after two weeks of the first treatment. The study was published in the Journal of Dermatologic Surgery.
Your consultation
Before you have a chemical peel, you will need to discuss your skin care regimen with Dr. Kara. Certain skin care products containing alpha-hydroxy or beta-hydroxy acids should be avoided in the weeks following a chemical peel.
Preparation for chemical peels
1. Inform us of any medications you take so we can make sure that a peel is safe for you.
2. Do not use any type of retinol or retin-A topical medication for at least 48 hours before your peel.
3. If you have a history of cold sores, let us know.
4. Do not use facial scrubs and exfoliants the week before the peel.
5. Waxing, epilating or depilatory hair removal products should be avoided the weeks before the peel.
Your chemical peel
During a chemical peel, a chemical peel gel is brushed over your skin. The peel sits on your skin for a specific time, then it is removed. In the days following your chemical peel, your skin will start to exfoliate.
Chemical peels cannot remove all skin flaws. Deep lines, wrinkles, and certain other flaws may require additional treatments or techniques.
